FAQs

Is teletherapy as effective as traditional in person therapy?

Research to date shows mental health care delivered remotely is considered just as effective as in-person therapy. All licensing boards for mental health care providers recognize teletherapy as a valid mode of treatment for mental health. For additional questions, check out How well is telepsychology working? (apa.org)

How long will i need to be in therapY?

Length of therapy is determined by several factors, including the concern with which you are presenting, the previous work done related to that concern, and your personal goals. It’s impossible to recommend a set number of sessions before beginning, and often additional concerns surface once therapy starts. We’ll work together to create a plan.

i’m not very tech savvy; will i have trouble with teletherapy?

I strive to make the teletherapy process as simple as possible. You will be given clear instructions and support to learn how to navigate the platform. You’ll be sent a link to use on the day of your appointment. At the time of your scheduled appointment, you either access the link from your computer or through an app on your phone. It’s that simple!

why don’t you accept health insurance?

There are pros and cons of using behavioral health benefits through your insurance provider. Using your insurance may require less of an investment up front, but also requires I submit a diagnosis to your insurance company that becomes part of your permanent health record. Many clients prefer privacy when it comes to their mental health.

What many clients don’t know is their insurance benefits often have out-of-network coverage, so although I’m not considered an in-network provider, they can still see me, and be reimbursed for a portion of their expense. Contact your health insurance provider for details.

still have questions?

can i talk to you first before making an appointment?

Absolutely! You need to find someone who has the qualifications you are looking for, as well as a personality and style that will fit your needs. Schedule a phone consultation or reach out by email. We’ll chat, you can ask questions and I can tell you a little bit about what you can expect so you can decide if you’d like to work with me.

Is teletherapy confidential?

The teletherapy platform I use is secure and HIPAA compliant. As your provider, I ensure your session is private and confidential on my end. However, you are responsible for ensuring you are in a private, confidential setting before beginning your session.

Are you a christian counselor only? do you see clients with other beliefs?

Although the niche of my business is to provide services to Christian women integrating faith and mental health, as a social worker, I uphold the Code of Ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Workers. This means, in part, that I don’t discriminate. There is an ethical standard against discrimination that I follow. An abbreviated version of this standard says “Social workers should not practice…any form of discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, or mental or physical ability.”

I consider it an honor and privilege to work with both clients who share my belief system and those who may not.
